ePOS Tokens Table of contents
As of 2025, RetailVista POS features a new functionality known as 'ePOS tokens'

Through promotional campaigns, customers can collect tokens (loyalty points) which can later be redeemed as a discount on purchases. The idea of tokens originates from the thrift store sector, where they are commonly referred to as “swap points.” A token can best be described as a kind of credit coin that the customer receives.

In RetailVista POS, one or more tokens can be redeemed during a sale. For each redeemed token, the system automatically creates a discount card with a calculated monetary value based on the token’s worth. It is not possible to redeem more discount cards than the total value of the transaction, meaning customers will never receive money back if they redeem more tokens than the purchase amount.

The maximum number of tokens that can be redeemed in a single transaction can be configured in the system settings. All generated discount cards are printed on the receipt, clearly showing the customer how many tokens were used and what discount they received.

A planned 2025 update will likely expand the swap points system further, introducing the ability to restrict token redemption to specific products. This will make it possible, for example, to allow tokens to be exchanged only for free tea or coffee.

The image above shows the sale of a demo item where 1 token (swap point) was used as a discount card. In this example, the value of a token is set to £3, so the customer only pays 2. If an extra token is applied, the customer owes nothing, but will not receive any change either. Each discount card includes a full history of credits and deductions, making it easy to trace how the card was used.
