Many of our customers initially issue a gift card when returning items. This can be in the form of a nicely designed card, but a receipt-style gift card is also acceptable. With this receipt, a customer can return to the store and use it to pay for other items.
Sometimes, however, a customer cannot find a suitable replacement item and would prefer to receive a refund instead. In RetailVista POS, it is possible to redeem the gift card for cash directly, even if no new purchase is made.

For some time now, it has been possible to configure certain types of gift cards to allow refunds. This setting can be defined in the gift card type configuration within the RetailVista ERP website. In RetailVista POS, a gift card can now be sold in the usual way, but it is important to use a negative quantity (quantity -1). By doing so, an already sold gift card can be scanned in RetailVista POS. The value of that gift card will then be read by the system and result in a negative sales amount. By proceeding to the payment screen with this transaction, the customer can receive the amount back in cash or through a negative refund to their debit card (provided this is supported by the payment terminal). Of course, the refunded amount will be deducted from the gift card balance, so that after a full refund the card will have a remaining balance of €0.
